TWC: partial lineart of this page. For a while, I completely hated this painting and thought I'd destroyed the lineart that I'd liked so much! ;___; And then the painting turned out alright after some pastel and colored pencil edits. (Too lazy to update actual TWC banner. :P But the image after voting is updated.)
THANK YOU FOR WAITING SO LONG FOR UPDATES! >< Hope it was worth the wait. This spread took forever because I cut out a piece of paper, sketched a little on it, and then stared at the paper in confusion. o___o ........ 9 x 20? What the hell is 9 x 20? This is not big enough. This picture will be special! LET'S MAKE IT 12 X 30. *redo* ... *takes twice as long of course*
And finally the wolf has a name. ^^
About Sedna: For those of you not around for February's name guessing contest, Sedna is the name of the Inuit goddess of the underworld. She resides beneath the sea ice. In life, she was vain, and would not marry until the most handsome suitor came for her. Finally a man came that she accepted. But her husband turned out to be a freaky bird man, which was really unfortunate, because the dude was hot (I don't know, I'd have been totally not caring about his bird form. FINE WHATEVER. Just be a man for me. You can go be a bird later.) Sedna's father came and rescued her, but the bird man churned up such a wreck over the sea that her father threw Sedna overboard in fear, having to cut off her fingers in the process as she clutched the edge of the canoe. Sedna sank to the bottom of the ocean and miraculously did not die, but ascended to the throne of the underworld.
That is how a mix of versions of the original legend go, anyway.
I will tell you a spoiler.
Sedna is obviously not the main character of "Toilet Genie." He has his own story that will be told after Vidu's story is done. Sedna's story, called Ebony Ivory, is a mix of Inuit myth and selkie myth, all of it going very badly because Sedna is NOT, of course, a woman ...
I bet you can totally not guess who the crazy bird man is in Door's retelling of Sedna's legend.
And the name is OFFICIALLY out there... awesome.
It is so cool that I not only got to know the name because of participating, but had guessed it correctly when it was all going on.
I've been catching up on your archive for a little while, and am always impressed by how beautiful your work is. (The jibing between Vidu and Sedna aside, perhaps, but I think you know what I mean.)
